Overview of the Pokémon GO Plus +™ (Unofficial)

Updated on Sep 30, 2025

The Pokémon GO Plus +™ (pronounced “Plus Plus”) is the latest officially licensed Bluetooth® auto-catcher released by Niantic, Inc. in partnership with The Pokémon Company (a joint venture of Nintendo®, Creatures, Inc., and Game Freak, Inc.). It originally launched in July 2023 as a companion device for both the Pokémon GO™ and Pokémon Sleep™ apps.

Its predecessor devices were the original Pokémon GO Plus™ (2016) and the Poké Ball™ Plus (2018), which could only auto-throw standard Poké Balls™ with user input for each encounter. The Pokémon GO Plus +™ was the first official auto-catcher to introduce:

  • Sleep Tracking — log sleep sessions for daily in-game rewards.

  • Auto-Catching — automatically throws standard Poké Balls™ at wild Pokémon in Pokémon GO™ without user input.

  • Manual Great/Ultra Throws — the only official auto-catcher that allows Great Balls™ or Ultra Balls™ during encounters by pressing the Main Button.

Current Availability

As of Summer 2025, Nintendo has reportedly ceased production of the Pokémon GO Plus +™, coinciding with Niantic’s acquisition by Scopely. There is currently no official word on a successor or replacement auto-catcher from Nintendo.

General FAQs

Q: Can I use berries with auto-throws?
A: No. Pokémon GO™ does not currently support berry use with any auto-catcher.

Q: Is it possible to land “Nice,” “Great,” or “Excellent” throw bonuses with auto-throws?
A: No. Auto-throws are treated as regular throws with no throw attributes. While Niantic has not published exact catch-rate statistics, the only way to increase odds is to use Great Balls™ or Ultra Balls™.

Q: Doesn’t the original Pokémon GO Plus +™ already support Great/Ultra Balls without a mod?
A: Technically yes — but only if you press the Main Button manually for each encounter. In its default auto mode, the device throws only standard Poké Balls™. Most unofficial mods simulate Main Button presses to bypass this limitation, though implementations vary and may introduce side effects.

Q: Do I need the Pokémon Sleep™ app to earn Sleep Tracking rewards or Nightcap Snorlax encounters in Pokémon GO™?
A: No. The apps are independent. Sleep data is rewarded in Pokémon Sleep™, but you do not need it to access Pokémon GO™ sleep-related content.
